Employment

Our attorneys advise and represent businesses and professionals across the spectrum of employment-related legal issues. We counsel our clients to help them avoid problems when possible, negotiate on their behalf to resolve disputes out of court, and litigate tenaciously when litigation is necessary or cannot be avoided. Typical matters handled by our attorneys include:

  • Advising employers on compliance with federal and state statutes regulating employment, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, the federal and state Family and Medical Leave Acts, and the Americans with Disabilities Act;

  • Assisting clients in drafting personnel policies and employee handbooks;

  • Drafting and negotiating employment contracts, confidentiality and non-competition agreements, compensation plans, and separation agreements;

  • Conducting investigations of sexual harassment and "whistleblower" complaints, or advising employers on the conduct of such investigations;

  • Representing clients in administrative proceedings before the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, the Connecticut Department of Labor, and other administrative agencies;

  • Representing clients in mediation and arbitration of employment disputes;

  • Litigating and trying employment cases in both state and federal courts – including Title VII (race, sex, and national origin discrimination), age discrimination, disability discrimination, ERISA, breach of contract, wrongful discharge, misappropriation of trade secrets and enforcement of restrictive covenants.

Clients without active employment-related disputes may benefit from our guidance on matters such as the auditing of personnel policies and general advice on non-routine employment issues.
